Volunteer positions at the library

Want to lend a hand? The adult volunteer program is for those ages 18 or older. Adults with time and talent to share are invited to apply to volunteer at the library. You may also visit the Volunteer Remotely page to view volunteering that can be offered from home.

Accepting Applications

The library is accepting applications for in-person volunteering for the positions below. Click on the links for job description details. Interested adults ages 18 years and older may complete and submit a volunteer application. Contact Volunteer Coordinator Cory Sesko at volunteer@vapld.info for more information. 

When completing the volunteer application, please keep in mind the following:

  • Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • The Library doesn't accept or fulfill court mandated community service hours.
  • Volunteer candidates must pass a background check.
  • The adult volunteer program is designed for long term volunteering - there is a 6 month minimum commitment.
  • When completing the application, be sure to include your full address, including N.,S.,E. or W. indicators, whether you live on a Street, Drive, Avenue, etc, your town and zip code.
  • When you're adding references to your application, they may not be spouses, significant others or immediate family members. Please include emails for each reference.

ELL Conversation Partners

We are currently accepting volunteers for the English Language Learning Conversation Program. Volunteers are paired with a patron who would like to practice their English in one-on-one sessions - either virtually or in person at the Library. Current volunteers may contact the Volunteer Coordinator directly to get started. Interested volunteer candidates, age 18 and older, may complete a volunteer application.

 

Library Events and Programming Volunteer

  • Volunteer will assist programmers with a variety of youth or adult evening programs.
  • This will include checking registrants into programs, assiting with activities, helping with set up and clean up.
  • Adult maker programs are scheduled up to 4 times monthly.
  • Youth programs are scheduled once monthly, and in some cases, quarterly.
  • Volunteer must be available to commit to at least 2 programs per month for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Days of week and times are subject to fluctuation in summer months, and when kids are out of school.

Programs requesting volunteer assistance are listed below.

-- ADULT -- 

The Library maker team is looking for volunteers who would enjoy assisting adults with projects that utilize the below equipment. Knowledge of, or a curiosity to learn the units and design software is required.

  • Canva
  • Cricut or Silhouette Cameo
  • Jewelry Making, Painting, Card Making or Scrapbooking

​​​​​Programs are typically held throughout the year on the following days:

  • Tuesdays or Thursdays / 6:00 - 8:45 pm ( approx. 3 times monthly )
  • Sundays 1:00 - 3:00 pm ( once monthly )

-- YOUTH --

Chess

  • Mondays
  • Grades 2-4 / 3:45 - 5:45 pm
  • Grades 5-8 / 6:30 - 8:45 pm
  • Basic chess knowledge required.

Lego Robotics

  • Mondays - typically held quarterly throughout the year 
  • Grades K-2 / 4:00 - 6:00 pm
  • Grades 3-5 / 6:30 - 8:30 pm
  • Must be able to meet with programmer and pre-assemble program project.

Sublimation

  • Tuesdays or Thursdays / 6:30 - 8:45 pm
  • Helpful to know or be available to learn the unit and design software.

 

Shelf Reading Volunteer

* Once or twice weekly for a minimum of 6 months
* Monday through Friday
* Flexible hours between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
* 2 hour shifts
