1-on-1 English conversation

Who is this program for?

Conversation sessions are for adult Vernon Area Public Library patrons who would like to practice English listening and speaking skills in a casual setting. A valid library card is required. If you don't have a library card, apply for one here. (In-district residents only.)

How does it work?

  1. Fill out this form to participate in a 40-minute session to practice your English speaking and listening skills in a one-on-one setting with a trained volunteer. Sessions can take place Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM.

  2. A librarian will contact you to confirm the date and time of your session. You will receive the Zoom meeting information in an email.

  3. Join the Zoom meeting during your scheduled time. Enjoy the conversation!

  4. Schedule up to two, 40-minute sessions a month.

What equipment is needed to participate?

Join the Zoom meeting using your computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. You may also listen in (no video required) from a cell phone or landline.

How do I prepare for the conversation?

You are not required to do anything to prepare for the conversation. If you have any questions, please ask them during the 40-minute session or email ELLconversation@vapld.info.
