Oculus Quest VR: Home

This guide will help you get started with VAPLD Oculus Quest VR equipment

Check out an Oculus Quest headset

The Oculus Quest is an all-in-one gaming system built for virtual reality. Play standing or sitting as you are transported into virtual worlds.

Oculus headsets are available for VAPLD cardholders ages 13 and up to check-out. They check-out for three weeks and are not renewable. They can be placed on hold. The Oculus headsets are checked out and returned to the Circulation Desk. All user information will be deleted when the device is returned.

The Oculus kit includes a headset with an eyeglass spacer and two controllers.

To use the device you must install the Meta Quest app onto a phone or tablet. The app is available at the Google or Apple Store.

Check the Library's catalog for availability and to place a hold on an Oculus headset.

Getting Started

Install the Meta Quest App

  1. Download the “Meta Quest” mobile app onto your phone or tablet.

The app is available at the Google or Apple Store.

  1. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your app.
  2. You will be prompted to sign into Facebook, or to create a new Oculus account.

Pairing the Device

The library has two devices, the Oculus Quest and the Oculus Quest 2. There are slight differences between the two, but the setup is very similar.

  1. Power on the headset by holding the start button for 5 seconds
  2. On the app, click on the headset icon to add a new device

  1. The headset should pair to the app automatically, but if not, enter the code into your app.
  2. Connect the VR headset to your wi-fi network through the app.

Example of a five-digit code

  • You may be prompted to put batteries into the remotes - batteries should already be installed.
  • It is not necessary to input payment information, chose Skip. There are many free games and demos for you to try. If you choose to purchase a game, it will stay on your Meta account for future use, not on the device. No one else will have access to it.
  • If the headset needs to update, keep it plugged in. In the meantime, you can review safety tips and more on the library website: https://guides.vapld.info/c.php?g=1008006
  • Once the update is complete, you will be prompted to adjust the head straps and lenses. The glasses spacer is already attached.
  • Set room boundaries for your play space. Wear the wrist straps.
  • Visit the Meta Quest store to find free games and demos or click this link
  • Never use the Oculus outdoors, and keep the lenses away from direct sunlight.

Safety Information

The Oculus Quest is recommended for ages 13 and older

  • Be aware of your surroundings. An empty space of 6.5 feet by 6.5 feet is recommended for many games. Make sure this space is free of tripping hazards. Use the instructions from the Oculus headset to set up a Guardian that allows you to safely move your arms and legs without hitting any thing.
  • Use the wrist straps attached to the controllers.
  • Use the provided disposable face shield while using the Oculus
  • A charger is included for recharging the headset.
  • Play the First Steps game first. It is a tutorial for how to use the Oculus controllers.
  • Keep the Oculus stored in its case when not in use.
Important Lens care information!
  • The lenses are very sensitive to sunlight, use only indoors and keep from direct sunlight.
  • Only use the enclosed microfiber cloth to clean smudges from the lenses.
